Last Saturday I had the pleasure of returning to The Carrie and David Show on BBC Radio London, and it was such a wonderful experience.
There’s something very special about walking into a radio studio knowing that your music is about to reach people across the city. Carrie and David made the whole conversation feel warm, natural and full of energy, and I’m so grateful to them for welcoming me back to the show.
During the interview they played my song Salma, and we spoke about the story behind how the track came to life.
One of the things we talked about was the fact that I actually had to learn how to play the banjo in order to record the song.
When I first imagined Salma, I could already hear the sound of the banjo in my head. It was such a clear part of the musical landscape of the song that I knew it had to be there. The only problem was that I didn’t play the banjo… yet.
So I decided to learn.
Sometimes when you’re creating music you have two choices: change the vision, or grow into it. For me, the only option was to honour the sound I had imagined. Learning the banjo became part of the creative journey and ultimately helped bring Salma to life exactly as I had envisioned it.
We also talked about the upcoming shows and everything that is unfolding right now in my musical journey. Performing live and connecting with people through music is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I’m so excited for what’s ahead.
But perhaps the most important thing we spoke about was why I make music.
For me, music has always been about more than just songs. I truly believe music has the power to change the world, to move people, to bring us together, and to inspire new ways of thinking and feeling. If my songs can touch someone, make them feel understood, or even spark a small moment of hope or courage, then I feel I’m doing what I’m meant to do.
Being invited back to BBC Radio London and sharing these stories with listeners was incredibly special, and I’m so thankful to everyone who tuned in.
Moments like this remind me why I started this journey in the first place.
And I can’t wait to share what comes next.
